Building Literacy Skills at the Racine Public Library

Last Friday, we celebrated the launch of Alexis and Anthony Go to Kindergarten with Author and Illustrator, Alexander McNeece and Molly McNeece and more than 100 Racine area students! The book, based in Racine, follows Alexis and Anthony as they spend their birthday with their grandmother, learning all the great skills our youngest residents should know before they start Kindergarten. In celebration of the book’s first dispersal to Racine’s four-year-old kindergarten students last spring and the second dispersal coming up this fall, we gathered at the Racine Public Library to practice early literacy skills in fun ways and meet the creators of this great asset to Racine early learning.

More than 100 young learners attended the event and practiced matching letters with their letter sounds, reading picture books, creating letters with play-dough, coloring, and other fun early learning games. They also had the chance to listen to the author, Alexander McNeece, read Alexis and Anthony Go to Kindergarten and learn more about how the illustrator, Molly McNeece, creates her drawings.

A special thank you to the Wadewitz PTA for providing resources and supplies for this event!
